Today, The Deniz Temiz TURMEPA Association is celebrating its 30th anniversary. TURMEPA is a civil society movement established on April 8, 1994, under the founding presidency of Rahmi M. Koç, with founding members including the Chamber of Shipping and our Honorary President Asaf Güneri. Its goal is to make the protection of our country’s coasts and seas a national priority and to leave a livable Turkey embraced by clean seas for future generations.
Through its projects, TURMEPA has become well-known both nationally and internationally, establishing itself as Turkey's leading marine-focused civil society organization within 25 years. With the “Declaration on the Protection of the Seas” published in 1995, TURMEPA gained support from organizations such as IMO, UNEP, The Club of Rome, ICS, and IUCN on international platforms. On June 19, 2000, it was granted the status of a public benefit organization by a decision of the Council of Ministers.
