A boat capsized and sank off Sarıyer in the Istanbul Bosphorus.
The incident occurred around 10:00 PM off the coast of Tarabya in Sarıyer. Allegedly, the boat, which had four people and a dog on board, sank for an unknown reason. With the sinking of the boat, one person went missing, while the other three people and the dog began swimming. At that moment, boat captain Akın Bektaş, who was passing by in his boat, heard the cries and rescued the three people and the dog, taking them aboard his boat.
The rescued individuals and the dog were brought to shore, and the police and medical teams were notified. It was reported that the health condition of the three people and the dog was good, and a search operation was launched for the missing person. Search efforts involving the coast guard and marine police are ongoing.
'THEY SAID THEY HAD BEEN IN THE WATER FOR 40 MINUTES'
Boat captain Akın Bektaş, who rescued those who fell into the water and brought them to shore, said:
"We were going to Kireçburnu and back. We left from the Tarabya marina. I was operating the boat; I’m the captain. Friends were shouting from the shore. At first, we didn’t understand what was happening, so we stopped the engine. We started hearing sounds from afar. We saw the friends and searched for them for ten minutes. We found them, took them aboard the boat, and brought them to the marina. We called the police. We found three people, but they were actually four. One had already gone missing when the boat sank, they said. I happened to be there about 40 minutes later. The boat sank near the Vilayet Mansion. One of them was exhausted; they said they had been in the water for about 40 minutes. All three were men, and they had a dog with them.
